Attention is the ultimate currency for brands. In stores, that shows up as interactive retail experiences built around a character guests can talk to. Getting people engaged with your product is hard, which is why more companies are turning to immersion to cut through the noise and leave a lasting impact. But what does “immersion” really mean in this context?

It’s more than just flashy tech or eye-catching visuals. Brands need to create environments where audiences don’t just observe but actively participate. Whether through virtual reality, interactive installations, or multisensory storytelling, immersive brand experiences transport consumers into a brand’s world, forging stronger emotional connections and deeper engagement.

With the rapid evolution of experiential marketing and emerging technologies, it can be challenging to know where to begin. To spark some inspiration, these are five standout examples of brands that have successfully used immersion to captivate audiences, build brand loyalty, and make a memorable impression.

1. Nike’s Interactive Virtual Showroom

Using VR headsets, visitors to Nike’s trade show booths or flagship stores can virtually try on apparel, customise footwear, and experience products in dynamic environments, such as virtual running tracks.

Through their app, Nike also offers ‘Nike Fit’, employing AR to allow customers to see what trainers would look like on their own feet digitally. The app scans a customer’s feet with their smartphone, generating a 3D image and using AR to display the shoes, while making personalised size and style recommendations.

2. Samsung’s Augmented Reality Product Demos

Customers can now test the latest Samsung products from the comfort of their own home with the electronics company’s AR product demos. This interactive approach allows customers to explore the details and features of Samsung’s latest releases, and test how they would look and fit in their own homes before making a purchase.

Via their website, customers can use their camera to fit the products into their home. With an easily accessible built-in Call Back feature, once the customer has virtually seen the fridge in their kitchen, they can easily get the real thing delivered.

3. Coca-Cola’s AI-Powered Campaigns

Coca-Cola is not shy about using exciting AI campaigns for product launches and events. In autumn 2023, Coca-Cola launched #TakeATasteNow, a large-scale digital out-of-home (DOOH) and AR experience in partnership with Tesco Group.

The campaign rolled out across 13 major locations in the UK, allowing smartphone users to interact with and change the screens’ AR visuals in real-time. Users could scan a QR code to receive a digital bottle of Coke Zero on their phones and a voucher to claim a real one at a nearby Tesco. This AR campaign offered a memorable experience beyond traditional product sampling.

In 2024, Coca-Cola launched an AI-powered pop-up in New York to introduce Coca-Cola Spiced. Visitors were immersed in an art exhibition based on their experiences of the new flavour. Following AI prompts, users’ taste experiences were translated into crowd-sourced digital art, creating a unique pop-up event.

How motion capture is shaping the future of live events

4. Rezzil’s Motion Capture-Driven Premier League VR Experience

In December 2024, Rezzil, a UK-based sports VR company, launched ‘Premier League Player,’ a virtual reality game that uses advanced motion capture technology to recreate real English Premier League plays.

Cameras capture athletes’ movements precisely, allowing users to virtually step onto the pitch and relive iconic match moments. This innovative use of motion capture technology offers football fans an immersive experience, blending sports, technology, and interactivity in a memorable way.

5. Warner Bros & Snapchat’s Barbie AR Filter

Barbie was one of the biggest movies of 2023, with a strong marketing campaign helping it shoot to the top of the box office. Part of that marketing saw Warner Bros. partner with Snapchat to launch a Barbie Wardrobe AR lens. Through the Snapchat ‘lens’ fans could see themselves in outfits inspired by the film.

After the film’s release, Snapchat users could scan global landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and London’s Tower Bridge to see them transformed into bright pink, Barbie-themed versions.

Performit Live’s Camera One Digital Characters

Performit Live’s Camera One service enables brands to integrate digital characters into their events, controlled in real-time by actors wearing motion streaming suits. These digital avatars interact dynamically with attendees, answering questions, entertaining crowds, and providing information.
